The Sport III is a great starting point for an AR set up. The rifle is good all around while still coming in at a fair price. The full length handguard offers plenty of rail space for accessories, while the rest of the gun has a no-frill feature set.
The stock and pistol grip are just run of the mill, which can be advantages for someone who prefers to slap their own furniture on it without paying S&W a premium for a set that may not be kept. A mid-length gas system with a 1:8 barrel help to round out this rifle.
